Instead, I gave it to a computer geek who is the one who tried the new cable and some other tricks and it finally worked. I purchased 4 of these (3 as gifts) and only one person could get it to work - and that was with a big hassle, including having to use a different connection cable. The other 3 have been returned. The idea is great and the look of the product is fine; they just don't work. I tried on my desktop computer and my laptop with the same results. Coby Troubleshooting personnel walked me through some gyrations for the one I kept and when nothing worked, told me to return the unit because it was defective.
I told her to unplug the frame, and it immediately booted. So she rebooted the computer. Checked the site for a software update, same version as shipped. I lost 3 hours the day before Mother's Day trying to load this thing up with images as a special gift from the kids. However, all of my pictures were in iPhoto so that is on little use. I am running the latest version/updates of Mac OS X.
Well there is no update mode. It hung at a white screen. After installing their software, I launched the picture loading application from the desktop. My MIL was in town and tried to log into my wife's profile, but it hung. Thanks, but no thanks. It tells you to make sure the frame is in "Update" mode.
I was able to access the frame through a Windows Virtual machine, so I know the device is not defective.
While I did not buy the picture frames for myself my friend loaded pics and they were fantastic he said that loading them was so easy and the amount it held was just great
70 photos seems to be enough. Depending on your pic, you might not get an entire shot on the screen. The battery seems to last. I would prefer it if it would just show up as a removable disk drive in Windows Explorer instead of having to use their software but I guess it's necessary because it forces you to crop based on the aspect ratio of the screen. All of that being said, it was a hit of a gift with the person I gave it to :) Maybe $10 cheaper wouold make it an even bigger hit with me :) The screen isn't the best. I wish it had the same brightness and resolution as my cellhone (an LG Envi).
Overally, very satisfied with the product. It also shows the time and date and has a calendar which is really great. Received this item for x-mas and was amazed how well it works. It is really simple, and had no problems uploading my photos to it.
